The committee has decided on a series of changes to the way this season's 5-Man Cup and Singles competitions will be organised:
Singles:
We’re changing this to a weekend MONRAD style competition which will be hosted at the Harrogate Squash Club on Friday 13th (eve) and Saturday 14th (aft & eve) April 2018.
More information about the exact structure of the event will be released in due course, but we are planning for the competition to finish at c. 6pm / 7pm on the Saturday evening following which awards will be given for all of the 2017/18 season trophies. So, mark it down in your diary now and prepare yourselves for a cracking weekend of squash!
5-Man Cup:
As a result of the shift in the singles competition, we are going to re-work the timing (and structure) of the 5-man comp such that it will commence in the first half of the season with the finals taking place in February next year, again at Harrogate Squash Club.
The exact fixture dates for the 5-Man comp are as follows:
- Mon 13/ Tue 14 November – Quarter Finals (there will be a maximum of 8 teams in each division resulting in the first-round effectively being the quarte-final)
- Mon 04/Tue 05 December – Semi-finals (the final fixture before the Christmas break)
- Fri 16 Feb – Finals night – Divisions 2 and 4
- Fri 02 Mar – Finals night – Divisions 1 and 3
As we are starting the 5-Man comp before Christmas, we are going to relax player eligibility a little in order to hopefully help with player availability. Teams must consist of five players (obviously) but with all players only having needed to play ONCE for the club this season prior to playing in the 5-man comp. Consistent with previous years, players in the 5-man comp can play for a team in a higher division than their normal division – however, players can only play for one 5-Man team in a specific divisional competition. For the lowest team in a club and/or where a club has only one eligible team, the discretion of the committee may be exercised to enable them to play – however, any player brought in must be of a lower standard than those already playing in the League and play at 4 or 5 in the order. If a team wants to field a player that for some reason falls outside of these criteria, they can also request special dispensation from the committee to play – however, this must be requested at least three days prior to the fixture date.
We want as many teams to enter as possible and we are proposing the following entries in each division:
- Division 1 - Chapel A (x 2), Harrogate, Harlow, Otley, Collingham, Adel, Aireborough (total 8)
- Division 2 - Chapel A (x 2,) Harrogate, Adel, Collingham, Dunnington, Skipton (total 7)
- Division 3 - Chapel A (x 2), Harrogate, Harlow, Otley, Collingham, Adel, Ilkley (Total 8)
- Division 4 - Collingham, Adel, Ilkley, David Lloyd, Otley, Chapel A, Aireborough and Harrogate (Total 8)
Could all club / team reps review their 5-man entries and let Tony Norwood know if they are able to submit a team. When he has final team entries for the 5-man, we will of course release the draw!
