Week Two round-up: five-point leads!
28 Sep 2017

Two teams have already built ominous five-point leads just a fortnight into the 2017/18 Harrogate League season.

Chapel Allerton 5 are top of the pile in Division Two having won 3-0 for the second week in a row; Skipton the victims on this occasion.

Otley 2 are the only other side with a 100% record in the second tier, but Stephen Zsigmond's defeat to Collingham 3's wily Anthony Kettlewell means they 'only' won 2-1 and are five points off the top.

Elsewhere in Division Two, there was an historic moment for Dunnington, who notched their first ever Harrogate League victory. All matches in their away clash with Chapel A 6 went to five games, and in a very late but thrilling finish, Joe Cybaniak beat James Steingold 9-6 in the fifth, with the final point finishing just in time for breakfast.

The other side to establish an early five-point lead are Ilkley 1 in Division Three. They thrashed Harlow 2nds 3-0 with each match wrapped up in straight games.

Otley 3 are the only other team to have won both matches so far in Division Three after they overcame Harrogate 2-1 on Tuesday night.

In the dazzling glamour of Division One, Harlow 1 remain leaders after a comprehensive victory over Chapel Allerton 3. In hot pursuit of Harlow are Chapel Allerton 1, who won 3-0 away at Aireborough, and Harrogate 1, who won a very tight contest at Otley 1 thanks to Olly Hotchkiss' marathon five-game win over Mark Swift at second string.

Division Four kicked off this week, with Adel 5 getting off to a flyer by mercilessly whipping Harrogate 4 without dropping a single game.

It proved a promising start for Ilkley 3 too as they won 3-0 in the 'Moor-Chevin derby' against Otley 4.
