No Harrogate League weekly update for months and then two in a fortnight... A trip to Canary Wharf last Monday has truly reinvigorated your correspondent's passion for the little black ball! Here goes...
Division One
Chapel Allerton 1 have all-but wrapped up the top-flight title by virtue of Monday's thumping 12-1 win at Collingham 2. Second-placed Chapel Allerton 2 have a game in hand, but must win all three remaining games and hope their stablemates get no more than five points from their remaining two.
Chapel A 1 line-up Ross Williamson, James Butterworth and Ed Stallworthy put Collingham 2 to the sword on Monday, while Chapel Allerton 2 played Collingham 1 at home, also winning 12-1 courtesy of Paul Allen, Ben Milner and John Riley.
At the bottom, it was an unfortunate night for Dunnington 1 in their battle with bottom side Harrogate 1. The hosts' top string was injured during the day while coaching and while awaiting his appearance, the No.2 and 3 strings played each other, with one win apiece. The No.1 was eventually a no-show, meaning Dunnington had played two players out of order, and the committee decided, after an appeal by Harrogate, that league rules must apply and the match should go down as 12-0 to the visitors.
That result leaves Dunnington bottom of the pile but so close are the points in the bottom half of the table that any team up to fifth is still in relegation danger.
Division Two
It remains as tight as a fox (weird catchphrase (c) Mike Robinson) atop Division Two. Harrogate 2 (11-2 winners over Adel this week) look pretty secure in top spot, but the next four teams are separated by only nine points.
Dunnington 2 thrashed Otley on Monday, but they have played a game more than Chapel Allerton 4 and 5, who both won this week (the 5ths with a bit of help from two-man Skipton). Fifth-placed Aireborough only have two games left but are not out of it - and play Chapel A 5 next week. Huge.
Otley 2, Skipton 1 and Aireborough 2's scramble to avoid finishing in the bottom two is set to go down to the wire.
Division 3
What a battle for the top two spots in the third tier! Harrogate 3, Adel 4 and Collingham 3 are separated by the width of a supermodel's thigh! Or three points, to put it more factually. Harrogate 3 and Adel 4 both won 3-0 this week, with the Collingham 3 results at Chapel Allerton 8 yet to be entered by their slack captain.
At the bottom, Skipton 2's relegation has been confirmed for some weeks and Chapel Allerton 8 are destined to join them.
Division Four
Aireborough 3 have become the first team in all four divisions to confirm the title. With two games remaining, their 29-point lead over Chapel Allerton 9 is now unassailable. Congratulations to the boys from Guiseley for a magnificent season.
Tuesday's 10-3 victory over Harlow 3, with Roger Wilkinson and Roumen Barzhanov the victors, was their 17th in 19 games this term.
